Individual Placement and Support (IPS) helps people impacted by substance use find and keep paid employment by offering tailored, one-to-one support from employment specialists who work closely with treatment teams. IPS is based on several core principles:

Personalised, Strength-Based Approach
IPS focuses on each person’s interests, strengths, and preferences, helping them find jobs that are meaningful and suitable for them
Rapid Job Search:
Instead of lengthy assessments or pre-employment training, IPS aims to help people start looking for competitive, paid work as soon as they feel ready
Integrated Support
Employment specialists are part of the wider treatment team, ensuring that employment support is closely linked with substance use and health services
Ongoing, Individualised Support
Once someone finds a job, IPS continues to provide support for as long as needed—helping both the employee and the employer address any challenges that arise, including relapse prevention and workplace adjustments
Open to All
Anyone who wants to work can access IPS, regardless of their background or the severity of their substance use issues
